Nominations for the 2023 Game Awards, recognizing the gaming biz’s best games and creators of the year, have been announced.

Two of the year’s biggest sequels — survival-horror title Alan Wake 2 from Remedy Entertainment (above left) and role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios (above right) — nabbed the most nods with eight each, including Game of the Year. The four other titles rounding out the nominations for Game of the Year are also entries in long-running franchises: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games, Resident Evil 4 from Capcom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder from Nintendo and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from Nintendo.

This year’s films and series nominated for Best Adaptation (a category first introduced last year) are: “Castlevania: Nocturne” (Netflix), “Gran Turismo” (Sony Pictures), “The Last of Us” (HBO), “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (Illumination/Universal Pictures) and “Twisted Metal” (Peacock).

Nintendo is the Game Awards’ most nominated publisher in 2023 with 15 nominations across its combined portfolio, followed by Sony Interactive Entertainment/PlayStation with 13, Xbox (inclusive of Bethesda and Blizzard) with 10 and Epic Games with nine.

All told, the 2023 Game Awards nominees span 112 different games, individuals, teams and events across multiple genres and platforms. The nominees are selected by a global jury of individuals from more than 100 media publications and influencer outlets.

The 10th annual Game Awards show will stream live from the Peacock Theater (formerly Microsoft Theater) in L.A. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, across more than 30 platforms including YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, TikTok Live and X (aka Twitter). In addition to revealing the winners, the event will feature premiere announcements and trailers, live music performances and celebrity appearances.

In addition, for the second year in a row, fans can vote for the Game Awards nominees on the award show’s official Discord server (as well as join a live watch party on Dec. 7 and react to the winners in real time).

The Game Awards is executive produced by Geoff Keighley and Kimmie Kim. LeRoy Bennett is creative director, and Richard Preuss is director.
