Weight loss story: Swinky Kapoor suffered from PCOD and had gained a lot of weight during her graduation years. Four years ago, she weighed 90 kgs and in a span of three years, she has lost over 26 kgs. “I was baffled when it came to understanding what led to my weight gain. It was only years later I realised it was because of PCOD that I had put on weight,” shares Swinky.

On diet she tried during her weight loss journey

After trying many crash diets and even hiring a dietician to help her with meal plans, Swinky took the matters in her own hand. Her idea was to keep her meal plan simple and doable. “From replacing refined sugar with jaggery and refined oil with olive oil, I made a couple of changes in my diet and they all worked in my favour,”she says. She also completely cut down on junk food and reduced her intake of carbohydrates, gluten, dairy and sweet food items. “Instead of white rice, I would have brown rice and I also replaced wheat chapati with oats or ragi chapati,” she says. The idea was to make my diet rich in protein and fibre, shares Swinky. Since she has embarked on her weight loss journey, she has made it a point to drink 3 litres of water on an everyday basis and she says that has helped her in boosting her metabolism.

On her workout during the journey

Swinky was always averse to the idea of going to the gym and working out. “I simply never got comfortable with the idea of working out in a public space,” she shares. From walking 10k steps daily to going for running from time to time, Swinky introduced movement in her daily life. She would take stairs instead of lifts and elevators and made sure she walked a lot.

On advice she would give to people trying to lose weight

Swinky proudly mentions how she gave her body complete time and didn’t take any extreme steps to lose weight. “I would really like to advice people to focus on losing inches and not on the number on the weighing scale,” she says, adding that consistency is the key when one is on a weight loss journey.
