This year, Netflix has a lot in store for OTT lovers. Fans will be treated with sequels of some of their favourite shows along with new films and series. Mismatched will return with its third season. Apart from renewing some of its old shows such as Indian Matchmaking and Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives. This year’s list also includes Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan’s debut film Maharaja, Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey’s Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, and The Kapil Sharma Show. Here’s a list of must-watch films, series and shows on Netflix this year.
Amar Singh Chamkila
Directed by Imtiaz Ali and produced by Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings, LLP, Saregama, Reliance Entertainment. Amar Singh Chamkila featuring Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra is the untold true story of Punjab’s original rockstar who rose to popularity in the 80’s. The music in this film is composed by Musical Maestro A.R. Rahman. According to director Imtiaz Ali, “It was very exciting to see Rahman sir dive into the heart of Panjabi music in Chamkila. We could not find a better muse to explore the vivacious and heart-wrenching landscape of Panjabi music than Amar Singh Chamkila, the highest record-selling artist of Panjab.” The film is set to be released on 12 April, 2024.
Do Patti
Directed by Shashanka Chaturvedi, the film stars Kajol Devgan, Kriti Sanon, Shaheer Sheikh and Tanvi Azmi. The film is described as a thrilling and unpredictable rollercoaster ride, with the perfect puree of suspense, emotion and drama like never before. “Get ready for a cinematic whirlwind!” the Do Patti team said.
Maharaja
Directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, Maharaja is a movie based on true events. The film stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Sharvari, Shalini Pandey and will be the acting debut of Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan. Director Siddharth P. Malhotra says, Get set to be mesmerized by a world of horse-drawn carriages,old-school printing presses, kaccha roads, beautiful traditions and a man’s willpower to do good.”
Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba
After the success of Hasseen Dillruba, Director Jayprad Desai is back with Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba. This time Sunny Kaushal and Jimmy Shergill will join Vikrant Massey and Taapsee Pannu in this murder mystery. The creators of Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba said, “With the overwhelming love we’ve received for the first part, we couldn’t be more excited to announce the continuation of this gripping saga. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, IC 814:The Kandahar Hijack is a story of an Indian Airlines flight IC 814,en route from Kathmandu to New Delhi,which was hijacked and taken to Kandahar in Taliban-governed Afghanistan. Director and co-creator of IC 814: The Kandahar Hi-jack, Anubhav Sinha, said, “This is a story that created unexpected heroes out of the most unprecedented crises. This is a story of those seven days of mayhem, skill and tact”.
