New Delhi: The grocery delivery industry is booming like never before, driven by the growing demand for convenience and speedy service. Mobile apps now allow people to order groceries from home, eliminating the need to visit physical stores. However, this booming sector is highly competitive.
Among these competitors, Zepto, co-founded by the young billionaire Kaivalya Vohra, stands out. But who is behind the success? Read on further to find out the success story of Kaivalya Vohra.
Kaivalya Vohra: Early Life And Education
Kaivalya Vohra, born in 2001, started his journey in Mumbai, where he completed his initial education in computer engineering. He then went to Stanford University in the U.S. to pursue a renowned computer science program. However, Vohra decided to leave Stanford to start his own business. At 19, he co-founded Zepto with his friend Aadit Palicha after initially starting another venture, GoPool, which they had to abandon due to the challenges of balancing it with their studies.
The Birth of Zepto
The idea for Zepto came to Kaivalya during his college days. Frustrated with the slow delivery times for online orders, he envisioned a company that could deliver products within hours. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, Vohra and Palicha launched Zepto as an online delivery service. They started with 1,000 employees and delivery agents in Mumbai, seizing the opportunity presented by the pandemic’s surge in online delivery demand.
Rapid Growth and Success
Zepto quickly gained traction as people avoided leaving their homes due to the pandemic. Within just one month, the company earned $200 million. According to Navbharat Times, in a year, Zepto’s valuation skyrocketed to $900 million (approximately Rs 7,300 crore). Vohra became one of the youngest billionaires in the country.
The 10-Minute Delivery Concept
Vohra observed that customers who received their orders quickly were more likely to return. He decided to focus on reducing delivery times. Initially, Zepto delivered in 45 minutes, but they soon introduced a 10-minute delivery service. This innovation set Zepto apart from competitors like Blinkit and Big Bazaar, leading to substantial profits for the company. Zepto now delivers over 6,000 grocery items within 10 minutes through its extensive network of distribution centers across India.
